Hello again!
“Long time no hear” … It´s true, I was completely immersed and overwhelmed by the tasks of the past 12 months. But I’m slowly seeing some light at the end of the tunnel and I have more time to work on my projects again.
So today I would like to start a new series especially for my german-speaking friends and followers: Ina’s Storytelling! But what exactly is storytelling?
“Storytelling is the art of conveying or sharing a narrative, often through spoken, written, or visual means, with the purpose of entertaining, informing, or engaging an audience. It is a fundamental human activity that has been a part of human culture for thousands of years. At its core, storytelling involves the creation and presentation of a sequence of events or experiences, often centered around characters, settings, and conflicts. Storytelling can be found in different mediums and genres, such as fiction, non-fiction, mythology, folklore, fantasy, science fiction, historical accounts, and personal narratives. The power of storytelling lies in its ability to evoke emotions, inspire imagination, and connect people through shared experiences. Storytelling can entertain, educate and sometimes persuade. Effective storytelling often incorporates elements such as plot, characters, setting, conflict, resolution, and themes. It can captivate an audience by employing various literary techniques like suspense, foreshadowing, dialogue, descriptive language, and narrative structure. In today’s digital age, storytelling has expanded to new platforms and mediums, with the rise of social media, podcasts, and interactive storytelling experiences. However, the essence of storytelling remains the same: it is about crafting narratives that resonate with people and communicate ideas, emotions, and experiences in a meaningful way.”
Various definitions from different sources
A friend and I equipped ourselves with various sets of 9 storytelling cubes and then wrote a series of short stories. We used different combinations of dice sets and agreed on different rules of play per “story”. Each evening we rolled the dice and then took turns to tell a part of the story until the next evening. We agreed on different genres, writing styles, rules of the game to be followed, such as initial letters, etc. We definitely had a lot of fun! And maybe you will like the stories that came out of it and discover the rules?
Enjoy the read!
